Exorex Lotion (coal tar solution 5% v/w cutaneous emulsion) is the most important step in treating and managing psoriasis as it contains the active coal tar ingredient for the treatment of mild to moderate psoriasis . Apply Exorex Lotion 2 or 3 times a day to those areas of the body affected by psoriasis. Do not be concerned if some of the lotion comes into contact with surrounding areas of unaffected skin. It is suitable for any age and can be diluted to suit individual requirements. Always read the label.

Coal tar has mild antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects, and relieves itching. It is also absorbed into the skin cells and is thought to inhibit DNA replication in these cells. This slows down cell division and stops the cells from multiplying excessively. In turn, this reduces thickening and scaling of the skin.

Can I trust it to work?

Exorex Lotion has been shown in clinical trials to improve the signs and symptoms of mild-to-moderate psoriasis, as well as eczema and other skin conditions. One of the reasons for its success levels amongst patients is that both the lotion (and the cream) contain Vitamin F. Vitamin F contains two essential fatty acids, linoleic acid (omega 6) and alpha-linoleinic acid (ALA – omega 3). The former assists in restoring the upper layer of the dermals by forming part of the lipid structure in the stratum corneum and also being used to make ceramide, a crucial component of the lipid matrix to ensure a visible epidermis. Linoleic acid also supports the healing process of dermatoses…by noticeably accelerating the regeneration of the skin barrier (Dr. Hans Lautenschläger Essential fatty acids, cosmetic from inside and outside, published in beauty forum 2003). Please note that OTC remedies are just first line therapy and further more intensive treatments both second and third line therapies can be used for more severe cases.
